Excuse the lip, I'm hungry as shit. |
1. "Nah, I don't mess with light skinned guys. They're pretty-boys. They think they are the shit."
2. "Dark dudes are back in style! Tall, Dark and Handsome."
I'm sure many of my women have heard this before from niggas:
1. About a light-skinned woman: "Damn, she bad as shit son, She got GREEN EYES son!" on the other hand "These light skinned bitches are stuck up."
2. To a dark-skinnned woman: "You cute as shit to be a dark girl."
The homie, would always say to me, "Son, you only like light-skinned women." Of course thats definitely not the case. It just so happens that most of the time, it is a light skinned woman that is currently holding my interest.
Another friend made this argument:
"I like light skinned women more, but best believe I would drop the baddest light skinned woman for the baddest dark skinned woman. Its like you can't lose with a moderately attractive light skinned woman, but in order for me to go out with a dark skinned female, she gotta be BAD! when YOU do find a BEAUTIFUL dark skinned female YOU gotta keep her...I'm telling you, a fine woman with a darker complexion trumps any fine woman with a lighter complexion. Easy."
Assuming that because a man is Dark, it means that he's strong, intimidating and blah blah blah.. They associate the fairer toned with being "soft", "wanna-be-tough", El Debarge in the face ass niggas lol.
It's safe to assume both sexes are guilty of stereotyping their own kind in some type of way.
Of course we all know that these ignorant generalizations are oftentimes based on previous experiences with people that just happened to posses such characteristics.
Hell, even white people use this "excuse" when explaining their disdain for Black people.
Straight up Colorism lol.
1. This isn't how I feel at all, but if someone is constantly having negative experiences with a particular "shade", are they totally at fault for not dating an individual of that specific shade, just for those reasons? Or are they selling themselves short?
2. How about a person that has never had a negative experience with any shade of black; they just find dark more appealing than light or vice versa. Are they selling themselves short because of their unwillingness to try something new?
I think that's why my preference in women is so dynamic; All women are attractive to me by nature. The only thing I can't do are the Big Girls lol. No disrespect to them whatsoever, It just ain't me lol.
At the end of the day, "Black is beautiful"...I'll take any shade.
What's y'all take on this?
Son this: "...El Debarge in the face ass niggas lol" killed me softly. I swear. U make a good point though, I have heard more than enuf women diss the 'pretty-boys' based on some preconceived notion on his skincolor. However, I think women get bent about the situation more often just b/c of the way the media makes it seem. Ya mean? Like light is just BETTER. So when women see some ol' regular round the way joint talmbout he lookin for a red bone, they get miffed. For real... If he aint checkin for me specifically I could giveadamme-less what his preferences are.
ReplyDeleteBG who knew you could write so well! I can now promote you from just getting my coffee to now doing my work! I trust that you can do it and that you can do it well!

Lmao.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I can write, foo'. Go pick my suit up.
Living in urban areas where media of all types have a huge influence in the black communities this has become an issue for some or just something you should acknowledge (it's all relative). If you take a look at the majority of mainstream media u see that the skin tone that is most talked about when looking at "beautiful people" is fair or light skin and for men who look at the videos, men magazines, video vixens, etc. most of what they see and like is fair to light skin women. with that being said, generally speaking, if most of what you see you like and its a certain tone, color, or whatever you want to call it, as a human you are subconciously associating it to an attraction. If they prefer a certain skin tone over another they are missing out. Its the essence of who the person is that should be the deal breaker. I just say it is what it is. For me the tone makes no difference. Its as simple as I love my sistas I don't love no BITCH!
ReplyDeleteOh and I see cookin and cheffin it up! TOSS EM UP BITCH!
ReplyDeleteSo you know, to avoid contradiction, the next two Bait Watches are going to have to be chocolate bitties lol.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! Being a dark skin female and the only dark skin female among all my light skin girl friends, sometimes it was annoying getting the typical "oh you are bad for a dark skin girl"..
